Meet Kelly Ruff
Business ownership has many perks, not the least of which is being able to bring your dog to work with you. Of course, when you own a store that caters to canines, it's almost expected. In fact, says Urban Pets owner Kelly Ruff, sometimes people stop by just to say hi to her furry best friend, Angus, who is well known around town. Kelly's customers bring their dogs in, too. The nature of small town living is such that, when you own any kind of business, it is easier to get to know your clients (and their dogs) by name and remember what their preferences and favourite products are.
Kelly has long been a dog lover as well as a Certified Master Dog Trainer and it was a concern for canine health that motivated her to start her business back in 2010. "I had a vision on how a pet store should be," she says. She is passionate about holistic, natural nutrition for dogs and so all of the products that she carries, from pet foods to treats, have a focus on healthy ingredients. She wanted to be able to offer innovative products that were otherwise not readily found in Terrace so that dog owners would have more options for nutrition and for playtime for their pets. She is also enthusiastic about education and keeping dog lovers up-to-date on the latest information in pet care.
Kelly has lived in the northwest for more than 40 years. It is her home and she loves every aspect of Terrace living, from the caring, community-minded people who live here to its incredible natural surroundings. "Terrace is the hub of the northwest," says Kelly, and there is much to see, do and enjoy here no matter what your interests are.
