Meet Lori Merrill
Lori Merrill has seen a great deal of change in the business and retail market since she first started Sidewalkers in 1993, not only locally but globally too. Online shopping has changed the way people purchase products, and big box retailers have made their way north since then. However, Lori firmly believes "that small businesses are the heart of a community and contribute to the well being of a town." Not only are small business owners more personally and deeply invested in their communities but they also have a firsthand understanding of what local people need and want in their towns. This was one of the reasons that Lori started her business in the first place: to fill a niche and meet a need in Terrace. While some things have changed, Lori knows that women still need a wardrobe that is functional and adaptable to a northern lifestyle AND they want to look great at the same time. This is what she and her staff strive to do, all while offering a personal touch that simply is not possible to get online or at a big box store.
Lori herself is enmeshed in the northern lifestyle that is uniquely Terrace. She appreciates its incredible natural setting flanked by mountains and forests and criss-crossed by rivers. She enjoys its cultural diversity and rich history. She is also grateful for its laid-back, unhurried pace and the ease of getting to shopping and services without having to go far or fight traffic.
Outside of work, Lori likes to spend time in nature. Often she does that by going for walks. In the summer time she gets up close to nature by working in her garden, and in the winter she hits the local cross country ski trails. One of her favourite outdoor spaces is Ferry Island because of its total immersion in nature.
